WHY: Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AA & NHPI) – the fastest growing racial group in the United States – represent 6% of the total United States population. At least 18.5 million AA & NHPIs (including multi-racial and multi-ethnic community members) reside in the United States, representing over 50 ethnic groups and speaking over 100 different languages in addition to English.
Between 2000 and 2010, the Asian American population grew by at least 46% and the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander population grew by at least 40%. NCAPA hopes that the Policy Platform can once again inform candidates and community members today, and policy makers the next four years, about the opportunities and challenges facing the AA & NHPI community and the United States.
