REQUEST FOR INTEREST (RFI)

Family Practice Physician/Medical Director

Summary
Asian Services In Action (ASIA) is seeking a dynamic, community-minded, and passionate individual who will provide quality culturally competent health care and serve as the Medical Director for the start-up ASIA International Community Health Center (ASIA-ICHC).

In 2008, ASIA’s staff began to hear stories in Cleveland’s AsiaTown about low-income Asian Americans who would delay seeking care locally to take a chartered bus to New York City.  Upon further exploration of the Greater Cleveland area, ASIA determined there were limited local health services that could meet the unique linguistic and cultural needs of low-income Asian Americans.  The closest available safety net clinic was the Asian Free Clinic in Columbus, Ohio.

By 2011, ASIA’s board made a commitment to the community to establish a safety-net community health center.  Towards that goal, the organization received a planning grant to establish a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) from the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources Services Administration.  Currently, ASIA is moving forward with its plans to become an FQHC by establishing limited monthly clinical sessions.  At full capacity, ASIA-ICHC will serve over 3,000 low-income Asian and non-Asian community members.  The services will be offered on a sliding scale and will also serve those with public and private insurance.

Ideal Candidate
As a start-up, we are interested in an individual who enjoys the challenge of building from the ground up with limited resources.  ASIA’s board and staff are interested to identify a licensed general/family practitioner who may or may not currently have a solo/group practice but has a vested interest in meeting the healthcare needs of underserved communities.  The provider will also serve as the Medical Director and be responsible for directing all medical services.  He or she will provide comprehensive, coordinated primary and preventive health care and supervise medical staff, including nurse practitioners and volunteer physicians, in a team-based start-up community health center with electronic medical records integration.  The ideal candidate will be interested in furthering Asian Services In Action’s mission and vision.

  • Work with RN/Clinic Manager in creating team-based practice.
  • Act as preceptor and coordinate all professional student activities in conjunction with participating university programs and nursing schools.

Qualifications

  • Family or General Practice Physician or Internist with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Initially carry his or her own malpractice insurance or receive authorization from their primary place of employment to carry over coverage (upon becoming fully operational, ASIA-ICHC will provide coverage to the provider).
