Family is integral to Thai culture. Many of people live in the same house with parents until they get married, and then they would move out. Younger generations would help take care of parents, and grandparents would help to watch the grandchildren.
Thai culture also emphasizes warmth, kindness and generosity. Generosity is meant to be shown to others without expecting anything in return. There is a special word for such selflessness and generosity: ‘namjai.’ A person has namjai when they go out of their way to help someone or share what is precious to you with your friends and community. Such selfless and communal living is important in the family setting, but also the workplace and school.
Thai food is diverse, and street food is extremely popular. Thai cuisine can incorporate many different tastes such as spicy, sweet, or sour. Common ingredients in Thai dishes include coconut milk, fish sauce shrimp paste, lemongrass, Kaffir lime leaves, and coriander among others.
