ASIA, Inc. Announces Launch of New Program to Expand Services to Victims of Crime
Asian Services In Action, Inc. (ASIA, Inc.) is proud to announce that we have launched a new program to expand services to victims of crime within local communities of immigrants and other new Americans. The new Victims of Crime program is funded by a grant from the United States Department of Justice. Since securing the grant last fall ASIA, Inc. has been hiring staff and developing the program. The two-year grant period runs to September 30, 2020.
The grant, from the Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime (organized under the Department’s Office of Justice Programs), allows ASIA, Inc. to extend services to victims of crimes that fall outside of its current Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault programming. ASIA, Inc. attorneys and staff will offer free consultations and services including explanations of victims’ legal rights, representation through the criminal prosecution, petitioning for restitution, initiating civil actions for compensation in some cases, and visa and asylum services where appropriate.
“Experiencing a crime is difficult for anyone, but more so for those who are just learning how the American justice system works,” says Elaine Tso, Interim Co-CEO of ASIA Inc. “With this program, we are able to expand our commitment to provide services to new Americans who are victims of crime.”
