ASIA Says #NoToPublicCharge with One Nation

Last week, ASIA, Inc. was the only organization in Washington D.C. representing Ohio’s immigrant communities advocating against Public Charge for the 26 million people who will be impacted by the heinous rule. ASIA was proud to be a part of the One Nation organizing committee.

Policy-Advocacy and Development (PAD) Program Manager Kimlee Sur, Policy-Advocacy Assistant Juleeah Vang, and Sustainability Services Program Assistant Joyce Deng met with Senator Sherrod Brown and Senator Rob Portman’s aids on Capitol Hill and spoke about the harms of the proposed changes to public charge.

“Our trip to Washington D.C. was busy but I’m glad that we were able to meet with Senator Portman and Brown, Congressmen Fudge and Congresswomen Ryan,” Joyce said. “We shared our concerns and clients’ stories with them regarding the proposed public charge. We’re making sure the voices from grassroots organizations are still being heard. Representing ASIA and Ohio, we will stand for refugees and immigrants!”

This trip could not have been possible without the generosity of our donors. The money raised was matched dollar-for-dollar by The Wallace H. Coulter Foundation. ASIA’s Policy-Advocacy Department and Sustainability Services Department are proud to serve and empower underrepresented immigrant populations.  ASIA will continue to combat #PublicCharge and its un-American, immoral agenda.
