Community Forum on Creating Live-in "Artspace" in Akron

University Park Alliance is currently collaborating with the national organization Artspace.  UPA is interested in developing a collaborative space for artists of all kinds. The “artspace” would be at affordable rates and hopefully attract interest and involvement from the local community.

As a live-in incubator of sorts, the space would foster productivity and collaboration among artists, while acting as an anchor to the Akron community by engaging the public.

Artspace representatives will be in Akron on September 11 and 12, and they have asked UPA to organize group forums from which to gather preliminary information about the project. As a result, four different group forums have been identified and will meet at the UPA offices.

September 11, 1:00PM-2:30PM:  Gathering of artists and arts community group.
September 11, 3:00PM-4:30PM:  Gathering of finance and funder focus group.
September 12, 8:30PM-9:30PM:  Gathering of civic leaders group.
September 12, 10:00PM-11:00PM:  Gathering of community organization/business sector group

In order for Artspace to adequately assess the desires and needs of the groups involved, UPA encourages active participation during the group forums. As the experts, your suggestions and questions are vital to the success of this project.

Please contact Greg Milo at ginster180@gmail.com if you are interested in attending one of the sessions or would like more information regarding the project.
