Dr. Mieko Smith appointed to national council

MeikoSmithASIA is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mieko Smith to the Asian & Pacific Islander National Cancer Survivors Network (APINCSN) National Advisory Council.  Dr. Smith has served as an evaluator for ASIA, most recently working with the Community Health Promotions Department on a report about Asian women and breast and cervical cancer and a regional Asian health survey.  She has been selected to serve on the council because of her knowledge and commitment to cancer issues in the AAPI community. Dr. Smith is also a professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Akron.

APINCSN’s mission is to minimize the burden of cancer and improve the quality of life of AAs and NHPIs by dispelling myths, reducing disparities and providing hope.  APINCSN strives to break the isolation faced by many cancer survivors at diagnosis, while undergoing treatment, and beyond.
