John Carroll University: Asia Dream School Program Evaluation Report

In fall 2012, an advanced sociology class on poverty, welfare and social justice at John Carroll University (JCU) conducted an evaluation of the Asia Dream School (also known as the West CAM Program); a youth after school enrichment and drug prevention program of Asian Services In Action (ASIA). The Asia Dream School (also known as the West CAM Program) is run in collaboration with the Lakewood School System.

The class evaluated the main goals of the Asia Dream School: a) increase academic performance, especially English proficiency; b) increase social skills and decrease social isolation; and c) increase knowledge about the detrimental effects of drug and alcohol consumption. A qualitative evaluation study was designed by the professor, Dr. Phyllis Braudy Harris, with ASIA Children, Youth, and Family Services Manager Kitty Leung, and the JCU class.
