The Ohio Asian-American Census Project, led by ASIA and comprised of pan-Asian organizations in Akron/Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo, is pleased to announce that it has reached 16,077 Asian Americans across the state and over 50,000 through local and regional ethnic media activities.
The Fill In Our Future Campaign (www.fillinourfuture.org) is a nationwide community-based, grassroots effort to ensure Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are counted. The Campaign is a network of over 50 organizations across the country coming together to ensure that Census outreach and educational efforts are conducted at the national and local levels to maximize the number of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians reached.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for ASIA and our sister agencies across the state,” said Michael Byun, executive director. “What’s more important is that our success thus far speaks to the strength of our partnerships and our collective ability to mobilize and reach our various ethnic communities statewide.”
Ohio Asian-American Census Project will continue its work this month as Census workers will conduct door-to-door activities for those who have not completed and sent in their forms. The project will reach out and educate people who face language and cultural barriers to alleviate fears or concerns about the enumeration process.
