Asian Services In Action (ASIA) is a growing non-profit multi-service agency with two sites (Akron and Cleveland) serving low-income, underserved, limited English-speaking Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) immigrant and refugee populations of all ages. Our mission is to empower AAPIs in Northeast Ohio to enhance their well-being, build their communities and to improve their self-sufficiency through culturally and linguistically relevant information and services.

ASIA is offering a Program Coordinator-Job Development Position who will work with the Manager of Self-Sufficiency (SS) Services to identify and build relationships with local/regional employers and to successfully place clients in available positions.  The long-term goal is to ensure high job retention of those clients placed and to ensure positive relationship with local employers.

The Self-Sufficiency Department provides employment assistance (job search, ESOL and basic skills training) and public benefits access assistance (including housing, health insurance, income tax, SNAP, HEAP, etc.).  The Department also operates an agricultural farm enterprise that provides participants training and promotes entrepreneurship.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, goal-oriented.  He or she must be an excellent team player; must be flexible; and have a strong commitment to and knowledge about immigrant and refugee concerns.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and contact current and potential employers who offer job positions that align with the skills and assets of Self-Sufficiency’s clients;
  • Work with Self-Sufficiency staff on client service coordination;
  • Assist with developing individual employment plan/needs assessment with clients;
  • Assist clients with job application; prepare for and take to job interview; and conduct follow-up with employer and clients;
  • Track placements; maintain employer data base; and other key information for grants and contracts reporting purposes;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree with 1-2 years of experience; or MA/MS level in social service, social welfare, public health, education and/or community development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Publisher
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse population/personalities (strong cultural competency especially working with immigrant/refugees)
  • Resourceful and flexible
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Completed and passed the required background check
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license

The Self-Sufficiency Department provides employment assistance (job search, ESOL and basic skills training) and public benefits access assistance (including housing, health insurance, income tax, SNAP, HEAP, etc.).  The Department also operates an agricultural farm enterprise that provides participants training and promotes entrepreneurship.

The ideal candidate will have program administration and some supervision experiences.  This is a mid-level program staff position.  He or she must be an excellent team player but also work independently.  The candidate must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines.  The person must be flexible, have a strong commitment to and knowledge about immigrant and refugee concerns.   The position has tremendous growth opportunities in an environment that provides professional development support.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide coordination assistance for day-to-day activities in the Self-Sufficiency Department;
  • Supervise Self-Sufficiency line staff when Manager is off-site;
  • Assist in monitoring and tracking program metrics for the purpose of grants/contracts reporting;
  • Help to develop program reports and assist in program proposal development;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree with 3-4 years of experience; or MA/MS level with 1-2 years of experience in social service, social welfare, public health, education and/or community development
  • Knowledge and/or certification in public benefits eligibility, enrollment, and/or case management systems (e.g. Ohio Benefits Bank, Health Insurance Marketplace, Benefits Check-up, Counselor Max, OCEAN, etc.)
  • Proficiency with or willingness to learn Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Publisher
  • Bilingual in a major Asian language is desired
  • Good coordination and program development skills
  • Some experience with supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse population/personalities
  • Resourceful and flexible
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Completed and passed the required background check
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license
