Women's Mind and Body Wellness Event is a Success

On August 8th, 2010 ASIA’s community health and mental health awareness programs partnered for a Women’s Mind and Body Wellness event.  The event kicked off with a presentation and trunk show on how to dress on a budget by Cleveland’s Dress for Success.  Melony Butler and other staff gave a fashion demonstration of items you can receive from Dress for Success, how one can connect to their organization and what services they provide.  In the demonstration they learned how to cost effectively build a working workplace wardrobe and coordinate the “basic” separates to get different looks.

Dress for Success was followed by a presentation by Allison Arsouzy from ASIA Inc., educating the participants on the mental health disparities that Asian Americans face.  After the presentations the event broke out into different activities where the participants were treated to haircuts and makeup from Lavish Color Salon, the women were pampered and empowered by the wonderful services donated by Lavish staff. ASIA’s Community Health Promotions program coordinated cervical cancer screenings and clinical breast exams through a partnership with Huron Road Hospital, MedWorks, and Cuyahoga County Board of Health.  A nurse was also present to provide glucose screenings.
