COLUMBUS, OHIO – “19th Annual Asian Festival Celebrates Asian Culture with Emphasis on Korea, Southeast Asia”
More than 150,000 people are expected to come to these FREE Memorial Day weekend events to enjoy food, entertainment, games, free health screenings, job fair and the Dragon Boat Race.
- Franklin Park: Saturday, May 25 at 10am – 9pm; Sunday, May 26 at 11am – 7pm
- Genoa Park: Dragon Boat Race on Scioto River Monday, May 27 at 9am – 4pm
This year, the festival will again extend over three days, officially making it a Memorial Day weekend activity for all families and friends to enjoy as we celebrate Asian culture and diversity. As always, our mission is “to promote the importance of cultural diversity in building a vibrant, prosperous and healthy community.”
With entertainment, cultural activities, food court, health pavilion, and Dragon Boat Race, the Asian Festival is back to celebrate diversity through education. The health pavilion will host a myriad of screenings such as Hepatitis B, stroke assessment, vision, and blood pressure among others.
The Asian Festival is proud to feature many unique performances, dances, and music reflecting both traditional and martial arts from Asia. This year’s focus on Korea and South East Asia will include hosting Chief Master Mitch Ellis, 7th Degree Black Belt and will attempt breaking 100 boards in under 9 seconds, a World Record. Other performances include The Iny Asian Dance Theatre to present an array of South East Asian dance pieces, Kim Eung Hwa Korean Dance Academy to showcase traditional Korean Talents, Nachda Punjab highlighting Indian Bhangra, and more.
The Dragon Boat Race has 16 teams racing this year. And the winning team will receive an award to be recognized in the 2014 Dragon Boat Races. As part of this celebration we will be “dotting the eye of the Dragon” in the beginning of the races.
