On Saturday, June 7, 2014 Asian American Advancing Justice-Chicago is co-hosting an Asian American Town Hall Forum to discuss the various issues surrounding the Jianqing Klyzek Chicago Police Department brutality case, a case that illustrates some of the harmful perceptions and treatment of Asian Americans by police and government. On July 31, 2013 Ms. Klyzek was physically struck by a Chicago police officer and threatened with deportation during a raid of Copper Tan and Spa, where she was an employee. For more details about the case check out the Chicago Sun-Times pieces that broke the story:Lawsuit: Chicago cops physically, verbally abuse woman on video
From a community that is perceived as being quiet and willing to take things as they are handed to us this is unacceptable and we as Asian Americans – and Chicagoans – must come together to demand more of our leaders.
We hope to see you this Saturday!
