ASIA receives APPEAL Community Award at APPEAL's Pathways of Change Conference

Thursday, September 25,  began the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment, Advocacy and Leadership (APPEAL). This year, the conference, themed “Pathways of Change: Advancing Equity on Tobacco, Obesity, and Cancer Control.” which featured Michael Byun, Asian Services In Action Executive Director, and White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, as a panelist speaker during the “Interactive Panel on AA and NHPI Tobacco, Obesity and Cancer Disparities Strategies and Lessons Learned from the Field”.

Asian Services In Action  and Pacific Partners for Tobacco-Free Island both were 2014 APPEAL Award Honorees for the APPEAL Community Award.

Additionally, Cathy Vue, Program Manager and Manger of ASIA’s Community Health, Evaluation and Research Institute (CHERI) was moderator at the “Collaboration within the Affordable Care Act (ACA)” session. The session increased audiance knowledge and how to maximize the preventive scope of ACA. Ms. Vue shared the perspective of the community health in terms of implementation of ACA and supporting marketplace enrollment in the communities served.
