ASIA receives APPEAL Community Award at APPEAL's Pathways of Change Conference

Thursday, September 25, ¬†began the¬†20th Anniversary Celebration of Asian Pacific Partners¬†for Empowerment, Advocacy and Leadership (APPEAL). This year, the conference, themed¬†‚ÄúPathways of Change: Advancing Equity on¬†Tobacco, Obesity, and Cancer Control.‚ÄĚ which featured Michael Byun, Asian Services In Action Executive Director, and¬†White House Initiative on Asian Americans¬†and Pacific Islanders,¬†as a panelist speaker during the “Interactive Panel on AA and NHPI Tobacco, Obesity and Cancer Disparities¬†Strategies and Lessons Learned from the Field”.

Asian Services In Action  and Pacific Partners for Tobacco-Free Island both were 2014 APPEAL Award Honorees for the APPEAL Community Award.


Additionally, Cathy Vue, Program Manager and Manger of ASIA’s¬†Community Health, Evaluation and Research Institute (CHERI) was moderator at the “Collaboration within the Affordable Care Act¬†(ACA)” session. The¬†session increased audiance knowledge and¬†how to maximize the preventive scope of¬†ACA. Ms. Vue shared the perspective of the¬†community health in terms of implementation¬†of ACA and supporting marketplace enrollment in the¬†communities served.
