Auditions for Bollywood-style A Midsummer Night's Dream

Cleveland State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance is looking for Cleveland area Indian actors, singers, dancers, and musicians for its November production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the newly renovated Allen Theatre.

While Shakespeare’s tale of misguided lovers, mischievous fairies, and bumbling actors will remain intact, this beloved romantic comedy will be done in Bollywood style!  John Kroll is writing original music and Broadway choreographer Newton Cole will create the over the top dance sequences associated with the genre.  Dr. Michael L. Mauldin, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, is directing.

Auditions will be held September 4 and 5 in our new Arts Campus building at 1901 East 13th Street, 5th floor, with callbacks on September 6.  Auditioners should prepare a Shakespeare monologue (no longer than two minutes), and 16 bars of a song.  An accompanist will be provided.  All parts are open.

Rehearsals will begin approximately September 24.  The production runs Thursday through Sundays, November 8 through November 18.

Not interested or available to be in the production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but still intrigued?  We’re also looking for Indian entertainers, singers, dancers, martial artists, etc. to create a pre-curtain experience for the audience in the lobby and rotunda of the Allen Theatre complex.
