FCC Warns of Robocall Scammers Targeting Chinese Consumers

Robocall scammers are targeting Chinese-speaking consumers, individuals with Chinese last names, and individuals who live in Chinese communities according to an update posted on the Federal Communications Commission’s website. Individuals are receiving phone calls from robocall scammers pretending to be consulate employees demanding money and personal information. In most calls, the ‘official’ claims they have a package with the consumer’s name that’s linked to a criminal investigation or enterprise. To resolve the situation, they ask for payments.

The FCC states unequivocally that the federal government would never make such calls and would never demand such payments. The FCC advises you to immediately hang up the phone if you receive a phone call of this nature.
