Grant for Newcomer Family Support Center from Higley Fund of Cleveland Foundation

Cleveland, OH – Asian Services In Action, Inc. (ASIA) is glad that the Higley Fund of Cleveland Foundation has awarded a significant grant to the Newcomer Family Support Center, a program that addresses the critical basic needs of food, housing security and access to health for vulnerable, low-income Asian Americans. The project will provide assistance to 350 or more individuals in need, helping them move toward self-sufficiency.

The Newcomer Family Support Center provides:
–           Interpreting and translation services to assist clients to complete public benefits applications and to provide follow-up to avoid housing insecurity and make sure families have more disposable income to meet other basic needs;
–           Emergency shelter, utility assistance and food pantry service that includes culturally specific Asian food staples;
–           Valuable life-saving health and wellness screenings and resources focused on early detection and disease prevention, along with follow-up language support to individuals in need of additional medical care. This builds upon three years of ASIA’s community health promotions and integrates with ASIA’s new International Community Health Center (ICHC), set to open late summer.

The Newcomer Family Support Center is in its fourth year of operation, working in strong collaboration with many partners. With Higley Fund of Cleveland Foundation’s strongly support, it will continue to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to 350 or more individuals in need each year.
