Grant to Lucky Seniors on Nutritional and Environmental Awareness Education

AKRON/CLEVELAND- Asian Services In Action, Inc. (ASIA) is pleased to announce that it has received a $6,000 grant from Cargill. ASIA will use these funds to support the Lucky Seniors program on nutritional education and environmental awareness.
The Lucky Seniors is a senior congregate meal and social wellness program which serves Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) who are over 60 years old residing in Summit County. The goal of the program is to improve the health and mental wellness of AAPI seniors through nutritional and socialization activities and ASIA believes the program is vital to the well being of our seniors. “It’s extremely beneficial for me physically and mentally to attend this program.  I wish that there will continue to be more variety of activities to improve our knowledge and health” said one of the senior participants, age 79. Currently, the seniors meet twice a week, for two hours each session at a local restaurant, church, and/or ASIA’s office.
With Cargill’s support, ASIA will provide nutritional and educational classes to the seniors to help them understand the importance of choosing healthy nutritious food. Knowing how to choose the right kinds of foods will help the seniors live a healthy lifestyle.  Along with the nutritional classes, environmental awareness classes will be taught on how the environment affects us today and in the future.
