Help Protect Executive Action on Immigration
Support the Confirmation of Loretta Lynch as Attorney General

It has been five months since Loretta Lynch was nominated for United States Attorney General. While her expertise and credentials are universally praised, some members of the U.S. Senate are blocking her confirmation because of her statements in support of the legality of President Obama’s actions on immigration. In fact, the Senate failed to even schedule a vote for her confirmation!

The Attorney General is a very important position. It’s critical we have a qualified Attorney General in place as we work on ensuring civil rights for all, including voting rights and criminal justice issues. Please join us in sending a letter to Ohio Senator Portman saying that his constituents want to see Ms. Lynch confirmed and to ask Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to hold a vote.

Dear Senator Portman:

We write as your constituents to express our support for U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch’s swift confirmation as U.S. Attorney General. We ask for your support in urging Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to schedule a confirmation vote in the U.S. Senate.

With her powerful record of leadership within the Department of Justice, Ms. Lynch has proven herself as a tough, fair, and independent lawyer. Over her 30-year career, she has always shown a strong commitment to hard work, public service and the integrity of the law. In fact, she has been confirmed by the Senate twice to lead the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY).

Ms. Lynch has skillfully steered the office through some of its toughest and most controversial cases. Under her leadership, the EDNY has developed a proven record in cases with national security consequences since 9/11, prosecuted ground- breaking cyber and international organized crime cases, and championed victims of human trafficking.

Ms. Lynch’s strong experience is undeniable. As you know, some of your colleagues have used her nomination to voice their opposition to President Obama’s policies. However, her experience and credentials are uniformly respected across party lines, and a vote for her confirmation should reflect that.

U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch is an outstanding nominee, and the Senate should act immediately to confirm her. We ask you to urge for a confirmation vote to give Americans the Attorney General that this nation needs.

Thank you,
