KASICH SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER ESTABLISHING THE OHIO ASIAN AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER ADVISORY COUNCIL

COLUMBUS – Today Gov. John R. Kasich signed an Executive Order establishing the Ohio Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Advisory Council.  Consisting of up to 30 members from the AAPI community, all representing a wide array of professional backgrounds in private industry, government, academia, and the community, this council will advise Gov. Kasich on matters concerning Ohio’s AAPI population.

Improving access to programs and services that could assist AAPI citizens and promoting these programs throughout the community will be a top priority for the Council.  It will also work to increase health education programs and support activities throughout Ohio surrounding AAPI Heritage Month in May.

Growing 40 percent between 2000 and 2009 and with approximately 221,000 citizens currently living in Ohio, the AAPI community has been one of the state’s fastest growing demographic groups.
