Shaker Heights Resident Wins Framed “Faces of Chinatown” Image

Following the closing of the Faces of Chinatown photography exhibit, sixty-three individuals from 31 different cities entered the drawing for a chance to win one framed “Faces of Chinatown” image.  The winner, Mark from Shaker Heights, chose the historical image in front of Sam Wah Yick Kee Co.

“I have to say how absolutely knocked out we were by the photo!” said Mark.  “To see that wonderful, huge framed photo was just a revelation. It is absolutely beautiful, and [we] can’t thank you enough for this outstanding prize.”

Faces of Chinatown was an extensive photography exhibit capturing the evolution of Cleveland’s Chinatown which showed from September 14 – October 24, 2012 on the second floor gallery of Asia Town Center.

The exhibit combined the contributions of several award-winning artists.  Photographer Steve Cagan captured current day images, which were combined with historical images provided by local families, as well as selected images from the Cleveland Press Collection at Cleveland State University Library.  Emmy-winning video producers Luanne Bole-Becker and Bob Becker organized the exhibit and graphic artist Katie Major arranged the completed panels.

Faces of Chinatown was a project of Asian Services in Action (ASIA), with partial funding provided by Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.  The St. Clair Superior Development Corporation, Margaret Wong & Associates, and Horseshoe Casino provided additional project support.

ASIA thanks all drawing participants for their interest in this important piece of Cleveland’s past and present.
