Please join the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health on Thursday, February 9th at 3pm EST for a conference call on the anticipated release of the revised National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (National CLAS Standards) in health care as they pertain to the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.  These standards provide the framework for health care organizations to best serve the nation’s increasingly diverse communities.

Because culture and language are vital factors in how health care services are delivered and received, it is important that health care organizations and their staff understand and respond with sensitivity to the needs and preferences that culturally and linguistically diverse patients/consumers bring to the health encounter.  Providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services to these patients has the potential to improve access to care, quality of care, and, ultimately, health outcomes.

We hope you join us for this in-depth briefing to learn what the projected revised National CLAS Standards mean for the AAPI community and to have your questions answered by senior personnel from HHS.

To receive presentation slides prior to the call, please RSVP to WhiteHouseAAPI@ed.gov by 5:00 pm EST on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 with your name, title, organization, and email.
